Activities ranged from design, build and test of model cargo ships, through experiencing Tim Peake's rest pod from space, to welding with chocolate!
Whiskerstay sent Director Dr Rachel Nicholls-Lee along to kick the day off with a keynote speech about her path into the engineering industry and how she got to where she was today, then she spent the morning and afternoon encouraging the girls to think about the effect of basic naval architecture principles in order to design, construct and ultimately race their creations in the school swimming pool. The aim was to get as much cargo to the other side as possible in 5 minutes.
Despite a few propellers ending up in the bottom of the pool, noone wanted to leave the sessions at the end - not even for lunch! It was a great success, and Whiskerstay is looking forward supporting more events in future.
Thanks go to the local Devon and Cornwall branch of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects and IMarEST for their support with the boat building activity.
